Transformations 2022-2023
The first painting in this series was a work titled Transformations, which initiated a cycle of subsequent pieces bearing the same name. In contrast to my earlier works, I introduced a more pronounced use of color here, while the female figure remains a constant element throughout my artistic practice. It is the female form that binds the entire series together, although the individual paintings differ in subject matter and explore distinct themes, allowing each work to maintain its own unique narrative.
The series was created during a period of significant changes in my personal life — at a moment when it had already become clear that my previous reality was undergoing transformation, while its final shape still remained undefined. In this sense, these paintings exist in a continual state of becoming. Butterfly wings evoke the fleeting nature of plans and the fragility of imagined futures. Color and golden reflections symbolize dynamism, curiosity, and an energy directed toward what is yet to come. Black refers to fear and uncertainty, but at the same time it defines a sharper contour of reality. The female costume becomes an attempt to give form to these emotions — to gather them into a coherent visual expression.
Accompanying the creative process was also a recurring reflection on the philosophy of alchemy, which assumes the possibility of consciously shaping transformation. I believe that understanding the mechanisms of change allows us to guide its course and extract from it what is most valuable. The final form of what we create — both in art and in life — remains largely in our own hands, influencing the way we experience reality and assign meaning to it.
